Parent agreement

ChessWhiz is designed for children learning chess. A parent or guardian must set up, approve, and supervise use for a child under 13. By creating a parent account, saving a child profile, starting a subscription, or allowing a child to use ChessWhiz, you confirm that you are the parent or guardian or that you are 18+ using ChessWhiz for yourself.

Parent consent

If your child is under 13, this consent is intended to support COPPA compliance. You authorize ChessWhiz to collect and use the child's first name or nickname, age band, game progress, puzzle attempts, coach history, and related learning data as described in the Privacy Policy. You also authorize the use of service providers needed to run ChessWhiz, including hosting, database, billing, AI coaching, and optional voice providers.

You may withdraw consent, ask to review child data, or request deletion by emailing hello@chesswhiz.com. Some features may stop working if required learning data is deleted.

Child safety rules

Children may use board actions, buttons, puzzles, and constrained answer choices. No open-ended child chat is provided. ChessWhiz does not provide social posting, multiplayer chat, or stranger contact. Do not enter a child's email, phone number, address, precise location, photos, passwords, or other sensitive personal information into ChessWhiz.

Coach limitations

Coach Pawn is a learning aid. It uses chess logic, verified tactics, and AI fallback responses, but it can still be incomplete or wrong. Use it for learning and practice, not as official tournament advice or a substitute for parent judgment.

Don't break it

Don't scrape the site, overload the APIs, bypass parent gates, defeat internal-tool access, reverse engineer private prompts, or use ChessWhiz to generate harmful content. Do not try to enter unsafe personal data into child-facing fields.

Subscriptions

Champion is a parent-paid subscription. Prices, billing interval, taxes if any, trial terms if any, and renewal details are shown before Stripe Checkout. By starting checkout, you authorize recurring billing until you cancel. Children do not receive billing access.

You can cancel or manage eligible subscriptions through the Stripe billing portal or by contacting hello@chesswhiz.com. Cancellation stops future renewal; access normally continues until the end of the paid billing period unless Stripe or applicable law requires a different result.

Refunds are handled case by case unless a refund is required by law. If a subscription or entitlement fails to unlock after payment confirmation, contact us and we'll fix the account or refund the affected charge.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChessWhiz and its maker are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the site. Maximum liability is capped at fees you paid in the prior 12 months, which is zero for free-tier users.

Changes

We may update these terms. We'll update the “last updated” date above when we do. If a material privacy or child-data practice changes, we will handle parent notice and consent as required before applying the change to child data.
